《Global South nations are looking to the North, the Road to China》
Hello everyone, I’m Thomas CHIU (Zhao, Zuorong).
Today is February 26, 2026. It’s the tenth day of Chinese New Year, but the first 15 days of the New Year hasn’t passed yet; we are still celebrating our new year. Wishing everyone good health and be happy and relax at work.
Speaking of work, my online followers who have supported me for many years have probably noticed that, starting about three months ago, my videos have almost entirely focused on short clips under 10 minutes. The number of times I do video-shows with friends has also decreased to only twice a week.
This includes: discussions on current affairs and national issues with Albert IP, Yu Dao, and MM, a professional in Hong Kong’s IT industry every Saturday; and participation in live and recorded programs with Ju Sir (Mr Ju) and MM via short videos.
As for the weekly dialogues with MM, and the weekly program on discussions about legal related issues with David Sir (Mr Ke) and me, have beem temporarily suspended since a few months ago.
The main reason for the above changes is that the country that pioneered the diversification of global trade changed its regime at the beginning of last year, replacing it with a leader who is even more naive and ignorant than Yelang in Chinese fable, a typical self-deceiving and self-indulgent idiot.
The country’s abrupt withdrawal from the global stage prompted stakeholders worldwide to turn eastward in promoting international trade and related laws. This westward decline and eastward rise is not even a matter of “descendance,” but rather a matter of “surrender.”
As the nations of the South around the world turn their gaze northward towards China, friends of all ages who have worked with me over the years and were scattered across the East and West for some time, now seize this opportunity and work together again.
In this Year of the Horse, my peers and I encourage ourselves with the Chinese ideom of an old horse: “An old steed in its stall still aspires to gallop a thousand miles.” I can forge ahead with like-minded individuals, and this is not just idle activity, but rather participation in updating and revising international trade laws and related matters. As one of the contributors to reshaping global multipolar trade and upholding UN rules and regulations, it is, indeed worth doing it!
Meanwhile, I also have a suggestion in my WeChat Moments that could indirectly support this proposal: that China, a major Eastern power, work with most UN member states to promote international cooperation based solely on the UN Charter, as well as various global organizations and coordination mechanisms. Say no to a few bullying regimes and their countries?
The most pressing issue is dealing with what Trump has done since taking office. After the setbacks in imposing tariffs on China, he repeatedly stated that he would visit China in late March or early April of 2026. However, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China consistently responded to reporters’ questions by saying that they had not received any such information. Has this response led Trump to isolate himself and unreasonably accuse China of conducting nuclear tests?
Furthermore, from the end of last year to February 26, 2026, we have seen the case of Lai, a major Hong Kong national security offender, repeatedly used by the western media! Japan uses Taiwan to challenge China, the Philippines stirs up trouble in the South China Sea, Australia threatens to cancel the lease of Port of Darwin, and Panama forcibly seizes Hong Kong investment.
After entering the Chinese New Year of the Horse, Australia has seen some suspected self-directed and self-acted anti-China farces. Who is the ultimate mastermind? It’s obvious.
Speaking of Chinese investment in Australia, allow me to quote Jerry Grey (hereinafter referred to as Jerry), a currently internationally popular social media influencer. I have selected a few excerpts from Jerry’s a video post on
Youtube on February 18th, with Chinese translation for netizens’ reference:
He pointed out:
“…China cares very deeply about the assets its people and corporations invest in, particularly overseas, but it will not break international laws, or contractual Agreements in order to protect them from people or governments which do break laws.”
“In Australia for example, if they persist with this challenge to the legal investments Landbridge has made, investments that are compliant in every way and even beneficial to the people of the Northern Territory in jobs and payroll taxes, as well as increased business going through it’s port and beneficial to the people of Australia in 4.5 million income tax paid last year, those are the people who will suffer “
“…So, to think China will just sit back and do nothing is wrong, they are very mindful that their investments are not just at risk but under threat – business leaders in China understand this and are already taking action
“there’s an April 2024 KPMG report, that’s almost 2 years old now showing that China’s investments in Australia have declined from a peak in 2016, just after the Free Trade Agreement was signed to the lowest level since 2006. It’s well worth a read if you’re interested, the report defines all kinds of factors but fails to mention the obvious one – Australia simply doesn’t want Chinese investment, they feel threatened by perceptions given to them by media which are completely false.
“The vast majority of the Non-US aligned world realises – there is no threat from China and, once again I reiterate something I’ve said many times, the people telling you China is a threat are more likely to damage your economy and your global standing than China ever will – China isn’t a threat, it’s those people telling you it is, who are.”
Jerry is absolutely right; those who spread rumors and gossip are themselves rumor-mongers. I’ve used a segment from his video as the summary of this one.
He said: “In keeping with the maxim that one person’s loss is another’s gain, the vast majority of China’s Overseas Direct Investment is now going to One Belt One Road countries – these are safe destinations, they are countries that welcome trade with and investments from China. In the Western world, that’s not many countries. Leaders of Canada and the UK were recently in China seeking investment opportunities, in both cases, they returned to their home countries to media criticism. It remains to be seen how they will handle this but they, as leaders, and their business leaders all know the truth – the media is lying, a few politicians who are actually paid by Washington to further lie about China are losing influence. Some people will assume that I’m either exaggerating about this but the reality is there for all to see, if you don’t believe me, go look up who are the main funders of the Inter Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC). It states clearly on its website that it does not accept funds from governments. But then lists the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy, the National Endowment for Democracy, the International Republican movement, Hello Taiwan the National Democratic Institute and others, all of which are government funded and almost all of which can trace their funds back to Washington DC and congressionally approved expenditure”
Facts speak louder than words. If you are interested in Jerry’s videos and that of mine, the relevant links have been uploaded to this video’s description.
